A focused approach to Witness Interviews & Statements
A useful interview asks more than what happened. It examines where the witness was, what they could observe, how they remember the timing, and whether another source influenced the account. ISI conducts interviews for attorneys and authorized clients with attention to both detail and context.
What the investigation can include
Preparation includes reviewing the relevant issues, developing neutral questions, and considering language needs. Interviews may explore inconsistencies and identify additional witnesses or records. Recording arrangements are assessed before an interview and handled according to the applicable requirements.
Clear, documented findings
Counsel or the client receives an organized account of the interview, including material statements, source qualifications, and follow-up leads. Any available recording or statement is identified so it can be reviewed alongside the written summary.
What to prepare before we speak
Provide the witness’s known contact information, the issues to explore, prior statements, and any attorney contact restrictions. Tell us if Spanish is the witness’s preferred language.
Scope and practical limits
A witness may decline to speak. Interviews are not compelled testimony, and an investigator cannot promise that a statement will be accepted by a court.
